Green Gram Dal PayasamIngredients for preparing Green Gram Dal Payasam

  • Green Gram Dal (Cherupayar Parippu)  -   1 cups
  • Coconut Milk (First Milk)  -   1 cup
  • Coconut Milk (Second milk)  -  1 ½  cup
  • Jaggery(Sarkkara) -  ½  Kg
  • Ghee  -   2    tbsp
  • Onion -chopped  -  1    tsp
  • Cardamom(Elakka) Powder -  ½  tsp
  • Cashew Nuts  -  25  g
  • Raisins (Unakka Munthiri)  -  25  g

Steps for preparing Green Gram Dal Payasam

  1. Fry green gram slightly without changing the colour and pressure cook it along with second coconut milk.
  2. When the dal is cooked slightly mash it with a wooden spatula.
  3. Melt jaggery and strain it using a sieve. Pour this melted jaggery into the cooked green dal, stir to combine and let it boil for some time.
  4. Into this add first coconut milk and cardamom seeds powder and boil it until it reaches a thick but pouring consistency.
  5. Meanwhile heat ghee in a non stick pan, roast cashew nuts and raisins till golden brown. Keep it aside. In the remaining ghee roast chopped onion till golden brown.
  6. Add roasted cashew nuts, raisins and onion and serve hot.
