Dal PradamanIngredients for preparing Dal Payasam

  • Cooked Sago (Savalari)  -  50  g
  • Kadalai Paruppu(Chana Dal) -  ½  Kg
  • Jaggery (Sarkkara)   -  ¾  Kg
  • Ghee -  100   g
  • First Coconut Milk  -  2  cup
  • Second Coconut Milk  -  4  cup
  • Dry Ginger Powder -  1  tsp
  • Cashew Nuts   - 50  g
  • Raisins (Unakka Munthiri) -  50  g
  • Peanuts  -  50  g
  • Coconut Strips  -  ½  cup
  • Cardamom(Elakka) Powder -  1 tbsp

Steps for preparing Dal Payasam

  1. Pressure cook chana dal with water, let it cool and mash well.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan, fry the chopped coconuts, peanuts, raisins and cashew nuts keep it aside.
  3. In the same pan add melted jaggery and cooked kadala Parippu, stir continuously.
  4. When it becomes a thick consistency and starts separating from the sides of the pan, add second coconut milk and cooked sago.
  5. Finally add thick first coconut milk and stir it well.
  6. When the payasam starts boiling remove from fire and add cardamom powder and dry ginger powder.
  7. Add fried cashew nuts, peanuts, coconut pieces and raisins. Now the dal pradaman is ready to serve.
