Dal Makhini Recipe

Ingredients for preparing Dal Makhini

  • Whole black gram - 1 cup
  • Red kidney beans (Rajma)  - 2 tbsp
  • Onion: chopped fine – 1 nos.
  • Tomato: chopped fine - 2 nos.
  • Ginger : chopped  - ½  tsp
  • Garlic  - ½  tsp
  • Green Chillies: chopped fine - 5 nos.
  • Red Chilli Powder  - 1½ tbsp
  • Coriander Powder  -  2 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder  -  ½ tsp
  • Garam Masala -  1  tsp
  • Cumin Seeds  – ½    tsp
  • Fresh Cream -  ½ cup
  • Butter -  2 tbsp
  • Oil  – 1½ tbsp
  • Coriander Leaves -chopped  - 2 ½ tbsp

Steps for preparing Dal Makhini

  1. Soak the black gram and rajma overnight in water.
  2. Drain and pressure cook the black gram and rajma by adding enough water and salt, till soft.
  3. Heat oil and butter in a pan, add cumin seeds and splutter it. Add onion, ginger and garlic, stir fry till golden brown.
  4. Add tomatoes and green chillies, stir fry till tomatoes are soft.
  5. Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt, Stir it for 3 minutes.
  6. Add cooked gram and rajma, stir it on medium flame for 5 minutes. Remove from the fire.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala powder and garnish with coriander leaves.
  8. Serve it hot with best combinations.
