Dal Cabage ThoranIngredients for preparing Dal Cabbage Thoran

  •  Cabbage -  finely chopped  - 1½  cup
  • Toor Dal  -  ¼   cup
  • Grated Coconut -  ½ cup
  • Turmeric Powder - 1  pinch
  • Small Onion  - 1 no.
  • Garlic - 2   cloves
  • Dry Red Chillies - 3 nos.
  • Mustard Seeds -  ¼ tsp
  • Curry Leaves -   1 stalk
  • Ginger -  1  piece
  • Salt to taste  -   ½  tsp
  • Oil -  1 tsp

Steps for preparing Dal Cabbage Thoran

  1. Pressure cook dal along with cabbage and enough water; add little salt and a pinch of turmeric powder.
  2. Once dal and cabbage are cooked, slightly mash them with the back of a large spoon and set aside.
  3. Crush the coconut with small onion, garlic, ginger and red chillies. Keep it aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when they splutter add the crushed items. Stir-fry it for few minutes.
  5. Then add mashed dal-cabbage mixture and salt. Mix well and allow it to cook about 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from the fire and serve hot.
